Born in Arkansas on July 18, 1975, Torii Hunter is widely considered one of the premier outfielders in MLB today and maybe even of all-time. Known to rob hitters with spectacular catches, Torii turned professional after being selected as the Minnesota Twins’ first-round draft pick in 1993.
By 2002, Torii was posting All-Star and near-MVP numbers. At the time he decided to sign with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2007, he had solidified his position as an exceptional talent in baseball. Since 2002, Torii has been a 4x All-Star selection (2002, 2007, 2009, 2010). Furthermore, he is an unprecedented 9x Gold Glove Award winner (2001-2009).
When not on the baseball field, Torii is passionate about making a difference in the community through his impactful charity, the Torii Hunter Project. The organization strives to better the lives of at-risk youth. For giving back to those in need, combined with his on-field prowess, Torii Hunter was awarded the coveted Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award in 2007.
In the offseason of 2013, Torii signed with the Detroit Tigers and is currently enjoying an amazing 2013 campaign thus far.
